Piñan Trek

DAY 1. The Final Stop: Muenala - Azabi

We'll depart Quito heading north towards Lake Cuicocha, and then veer west to the high paramos—high altitude grasslands—of Muenala, where our trek begins. This trail takes us to the Azabi community, where we'll spend the first night. L / D


DAY 2. Plaza Gutierrez - Apuela

After breakfast, we'll follow the valley of Intag to reach the city of Plaza Gutiérrez, and subsequently Apuela. On this day, we'll walk about 15 km. In Apuela we will rest in comfortable rooms with hot showers. B / LB / D


DAY 3. Community of Cuellaje

From Apuela we'll continue our trek uphill towards Cuellaje. Cuellaje is a village with a pleasant, subtropical climate and very friendly people. We'll stop to rest at Finca San Antonio. B / LB / D


DAY 4. Rosario

On this day we'll walk for about 5 hours to reach the village of Rosario. At night we'll camp in a beautiful site near town. B / LB / D


DAY 5 Piñan Community

We'll do an easy hike of about five hours through the cloud forest and farmlands up to the community of Piñan. In Piñan a shelter awaits us that offers all the necessary amenities needed to have proper rest and relaxation.


DAY 6. Piñan Community - Return to Quito

The community of Piñan is accessible only by four-wheel drive vehicles. We'll ride for about two hours on mud roads surrounded by spectacular views. After crossing landscapes by means of adventurous paths, we'll arrive at the highway for our return to Quito. This trip takes about five hours. We'll stop for lunch on the way where we can share experiences of the latest adventure. B / L
