This program is designed for people who love nature and adventure. It is for those who wish to travel around the Ecuadorian Andes while discovering downtown Quito and the Middle of the World. You can explore the Yellow Lake in the middle of one of the most beautiful glaciers of Ecuador: Altar, while you enjoy one of the most thrilling railroads known as "The Devil's nose". And hike to North Iliniza and Rumiñahui Mountains to have the most amazing view of the Volcanoes Avenue.

Trip Details

7 Days / 6 Nights



DAY 1. Trekking Altar

Departure from Quito to the Valley of Collanes. From the parking site we'll. The large backpacks and other cargo will be transported on mules. The hike lasts between 4 to 6 hours. We recommend using rubber boots. At night, we'll have dinner and then rest. (BL / D)



DAY 2. Collanes Valley - Laguna Amarilla (Yellow Lagoon)

In the morning, after a delicious breakfast, we'll hike towards Laguna Collanes, located in the crater of an extinct volcano. We'll explore the area and spend an afternoon taking in and enjoying the magnificence of one of the most beautiful places in the Ecuadorian Andes. The walk takes about 4 hours.


DAY 3. Altar - Hacienda near Cotopaxi

After breakfast, we'll walk for about 3 hours to reach the site where we'll be picked up and taken to a beautiful hacienda near the Cotopaxi National Park. Here, we'll have time to explore the surrounding area before enjoying a delicious dinner.


DAY 4. The Devil's Nose

We'll leave early in the morning for the Alausí train station. Here we'll catch the train through what is known as the "Devil's Nose". It's astonishing how the "most difficult railway in the world"zigzags safely down a massive cliff. In the afternoon, we'll return to the old hacienda to relax before a delightful dinner. B / L / D


DAY 5. Iliniza Norte (5,126 m. / 16,814 ft)

After breakfast, we'll depart for the Ilinizas and walk the last stretch to the New Horizons shelter. This hike takes between 3 to 5 hours, depending on our pace and the weather. At the beginning of the walk, we'll enjoy typical Andean grasslands and beautiful Polylepis trees. We'll pass sandy slopes until noon, in time to reach the shelter for a snack and recharge our energy. At this point, the terrain becomes rocky. The summit can be reached in about 3 hours, while the descent to the base of the volcano takes about two.


DAY 6. Quilotoa Crater

After breakfast we'll head towards the spectacular crater of Quilotoa, where we will see one of Ecuador’s most breathtaking landscapes. We'll visit local indigenous communities that have maintained their cultural identity over the centuries. In the afternoon we'll return to the hacienda.


DAY 7. Rumiñahui Volcano (4,721 m. / 15,492 ft)

Early in the morning, we start our hike from the lagoon of Limpiopungo. We'll pass sandy landscapes strewn with volcanic rocks and rocky slopes before reaching the summit of Rumiñahui volcano. This mountain impresses everyone with its grandeur and the extraordinary surroundings. If the weather permits, we'll enjoy an incredible view of Cotopaxi from the summit, as well as of Sincholahua, Antisana, Chimborazo, the Ilinizas and Mount Corazon (Heart), making it an unforgettable experience. The climb takes approximately 4 to 5 hours, and the return around two. We'll then rest and make our return to Quito.
