14 Days / 13 Nights

Day 1: Transfer and accommodation.

An Equatortrekking representative will pick you up at Quito´s international airport and take you to a wonderful Boutique hotel.

Day 2: City Tour Quito Colonial & The Middle of the World

In order for you to get acclimatize we will explore both the Quito Colonial and Middle of the World. You will find out why Lonely Planet or National Geographic Traveler consider this city as one of the “must go” places in the world.
Quito is considered one of the most beautiful cities in Latin America and was the first city worldwide declared “Patrimony of Humanity” by UNESCO. On day 2 we will have the opportunity to explore the most important churches, theaters, convents and colonial palaces of Quito as you walk through the small antique streets of the city.
The afternoon will be spent at the Middle of the World monument. This monument is well known due to its unique location at parallel 0 and meridian 0, 0´ 0. Here we will be able to see how Coriolis Effect work in a very fun way and take your picture with one foot on each hemisphere. By night you will be taken to a delicious dinner in one of the best restaurants in Quito, then back to your first class hotel for overnight. (B/L/D)

Day 3: Quito – Otavalo

In the morning we will visit the amazing handicraft market in Otavalo city, one of the most important artisan markets in South America. Here you will get to interact with the vendors and learn about their crafts and their well preserved traditions. Items available at the market include handmade textiles as well as pottery, jewellery, panama hats and more. Then, proceed to Peguche, an Indian village near Otavalo that is home to the artisans who do the weaving in their homes; guests can learn about their culture and everyday life. Lunch is at Lake San Pablo´s Cabañas de Lago, where we will spend most of the afternoon. This night we will stay near Otavalo at a first class hotel. (B/L/D)

DAY 4: Cuicocha Lagoon Trek

Cuicocha is part of the Ecological Reserve Cotacachi-Cayapas that has an altitude of 10.052 feet. This reserve is a pleasure for every nature lover. This 5-hour trekking around the lagoon will give you the opportunity to view a variety of Andean flora and fauna. The landscape is unique: the lagoon, with its beautiful crystal waters, has two small islands created by volcanic domes, and has a depth of approximately 200 m.
In the morning, we will go to the Cuicocha Lagoon. The trekking will take about 4 to 5 hours. You will start your hike at 10.170 feet and you will reach a viewpoint at 11.483 feet. From this point onwards you will descend to the level of the lagoon. With a clear sky during the trek, you will be able to see the snow-capped peaks of the volcanoes Cayambe, Cotopaxi and the Cotacachi and Imbabura craters. In the afternoon you will return to Otavalo to spend the night at the same first class hotel. (B/LB/D)

Day 5: Highland Lagoon Trek + Hotsprings Spa + Cloud Forest Lodge

After breakfast we will travel 90 minutes east of Quito to Cayambe-Coca National Park for a beautiful trek near Sucos Lake. The landscapes from this highland protected National Park are amazing, flora and fauna are wonderful and if you are lucky you will have the chance to see some dears, tapirs, spectacled bears, among other species. Then we will drive a few minutes to a local restaurant for a delicious lunch and a relaxing afternoon at the spa and thermal waters of Papallacta. Then we will depart towards a beautiful cloud forest lodge for dinner and overnight. (B/L/D)

Day 6: Cloud Forest

The biodiversity of the cloud forest is astonishing! Today we will take a walk inside it accompanied by a naturalist guide that will help us understand the importance of it. There are great possibilities to see lots of iconic fauna, for example the Cock of the Rock or if we are really lucky even a Spectacle Bear.
This is an experience that will surely remind you why you love nature. All foods are prepared in the lodge with a very nice seasoning. (B/L/D)

Day 7: Cloud Forest Lodge – Cotopaxi´s National Park Hacienda

Early in the morning we will have breakfast and then have another short walk inside the cloud forest. Then travel to a beautiful Hacienda in the heart of Ecuador's "Avenue of the Volcanoes". Here you will find traditional hospitality with a touch of luxury and you will be welcomed with a roaring log fire in the sitting room, and in your bedroom when the nights are cold.
All meals are tailored for hungry travelers, riders and hikers, and combine delicious Ecuadorian and international cuisine. (B/L/D)

Day 8: Hacienda and Cotopaxi´s National Park

This day you can choose among activities such as: horseback riding, bicycling, hikking, canopying, or just take a drive tour inside Cotopaxi´s National Park visiting Limpiopungo Lake and meeting some llamas, free wild horses and luckily a Condor. (B / L or LB depending on the chosen activity / D)

Day 9: The Pasochoa Biological Volcano Reserve

The Pasochoa volcano is an erosion caldron open to the east side with a deep Andean forest rich in animal species and vegetation that is being protected. The activity of this volcano seems to have ended many years ago in a period during which the volcano was affected by the glaciers.
Today we will hike this spectacular Refuge of Wild Life, entering polilepis woods with a great natural richness. In the afternoon we will go back to the Hacienda. (B/LB/D)

Day 10: Flight Quito-Coca, Luxury eco-hotel in Ecuadorian Rainforest

The greatest and ultimate alternative luxury eco-hotel in Amazonian Ecuador wich includes the conservation of approximately over 82 square miles (53,500 acres - over 21,400 hectares) of the most pristine Amazon Rain Forest within the Yasunì National Park, an important UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and the largest tract of tropical rain forest in Ecuador.
Departure from Quito, 30 minute flight to Coca city, a 5 min transfer in local chiva (hired bus) or local taxi from airport to Francisco de Orellana Port, in which you will take a ride onto a comfortable covered motor boat. A canoe ride along the Napo River for about 2 hours is the activity. Lunch and a ride paddling along a narrow creek, which connects the lake and the lodge is the next one. A welcome cocktail will be waiting for you at the lodge. After dinner, there is the optional caiman (alligator) observation around the lake and natural sounds at night. (B/L/D)

Day 11: Luxury eco-hotel in Ecuadorian Rainforest

Breakfast and departure to reach the best and easy access parrot clay licks, a 1-hour ride, where guests reach there just before parrot activity kicks off at the clay lick between 7:30 to 8:30. A total of 11 species of parrots, parakeets and macaws can be seen. Later, a hike along forest trail to visit a Quechua community, Añangu and spend time with them. Return to the creek and hike through a Terra Firme Forest for about 30 minutes. Lunch boxes at the parrot clay lick observatory will be served and late afternoon arrival to the lodge for dinner. Day 12: Luxury eco-hotel in Ecuadorian Rainforest

After an early breakfast, departure to a canopy tower on the Napo River, a 36 m high canopy tower, a great way to experience the wildlife above the forest floor. This is the second tower (the first is attached to the dining hall and allows great views of the lake). As you ascend the 12-story tower, you pass through different levels of the forest and emerge on top of a huge Ceibo tree. Here you cross onto a wooden platform that is actually built into the tree and experience the view and see yellow macaws, spider monkeys, large toucans, endemic golden mantle, lizards, manikins, tamarin monkeys, birds that are virtually impossible to see from the forest floor far below are suddenly right beside you and other animals. Day 13: Luxury eco-hotel in Ecuadorian Rainforest

Early departure and last excursion canoeing back to the Napo River, the creek may reveal new sights of Giant otters, Monk Saki monkeys or many other rare birds. Entry docking area and embarking on motorized canoe in order to return back to Coca, arrival approximately after a 2 hours boat ride up river, in order to check for the Coca - Quito flight. (B/L)

Day 14: Transfer out or to your extension tour

An Equatortrekking representative will take you to Quito´s international airport so you can take your flight home. Time to say goodbye, or better yet, until the next time. (B)
