DAY 1. Ascending the Rucu Pichincha (4,698 m. / 15,413 ft)

Hiking up to the summit of Rucu Pichincha is an excellent way to begin our process of acclimatization. We'll go up in the cable car, where we can enjoy a panoramic view of the city of Quito. The trek starts from here to the top. From Pichincha you can see the Ecuadorian capital and the surrounding volcanoes, such as Antisana, Cotopaxi, Pasochoa, and the Ilinizas.

DAY 2. Mount Corazón

This is an inactive volcano located 30 kilometers southwest of Quito, in the Western Andes Cordillera. It's an excellent place to adapt to the altitude. From Mount Corazón—which means "Heart"—we can appreciate some of the most beautiful landscapes of the Ecuadorian Andes. (Breakfast, Lunch Box, Dinner)

Day 3. Ascent to Iliniza Norte (5,124 m. / 16,814 ft)

After breakfast, we'll have an early departure towards the small community of Chaupi, near the Ilinizas. We'll leave our car a few kilometers from Chaupi, and begin our trek of about three hours to the shelter New Horizons. Before reaching the shelter, we'll be passing through wonderful Andean landscapes with its incredibly fertile valleys and the unique Polylepis trees. We'll have time for a snack and a little rest around noon. The path leading from the shelter to the summit is rocky and it takes about 3 hours to reach the top. Our descent takes an additional 2 hours. In the afternoon, we'll be back in time to relax and unwind in the old Hacienda house. (Breakfast, Lunch Box, Dinner)

DAY 4. Imbabura (4.650 m/ 15.255 ft)

We depart from Quito to reach the summit of the Imbabura volcano after 4 hours of hiking. The return will last about three hours. A private vehicle will be expecting us for our return to our comfortable hotel in Ibarra. (Breakfast, Lunch Box, Dinner)

DAY 5. Otavalo Relaxing Day

In the morning, we will go to Otavalo, home of the most important indigenous market in all of Latin America. Merchants at the Plaza de Ponchos offer a unique selection of colourful arts and crafts, as well as hand-woven articles. Your market visit is followed by a drive to the Condor Park near Otavalo to attend the raptor presentation at 11:30. Your trip continues to Cotacachi, a village known for its excellent leather crafts. A short drive will take us to Cuicocha Crater Lake, where we have the option to go for a short hike along the rim of the crater or go for a boat ride on the beautiful lagoon. Return to the hotel later in the afternoon. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

DAY 6. Cayambe Refuge (4.600 m/ 15.091 ft)

After a short travel in our private car, we’ll arrive to Cayambe Coca National Park, where a pick-up truck will wait for us to take our luggage. We will walk from there for about an hour towards the Ruales Oleas Berge Mountain Shelter (4.600 m.a.s.l.). In the evening, we will have time to prepare our equipment and if necessary give a small lesson on how to use rock and ice mountain equipment. At night time during dinner time, our guides will also give us some tips about trekking up the volcano. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

DAY 7. Cayambe Summit (5.790 m / 18.996 ft)

Our adventure will begin at midnight, after a light breakfast, we will begin our climb to the summit. Depending upon the climate and the group’s physical condition it will take between 6 and 8 hours to reach the summit. We will enjoy a stunning view of this beautiful Andean region. Descending back to the Mountain Shelter will take about 4 to 6 hours. Rest for a while and get ready to return to Quito. (Breakfast, Box Lunch)
